A new and old way to publicly share sound, independent from the internet. Two devices, one to record and dispense self adhesive audio tape, and one with a tape head and amplifier to play it.

These “sound stickers” were inspired by Nam June Paiks Random Access. A collection of audio tape stuck to a wall of a gallery with an accompanying tape player, its play head wires extended into a “tape wand”.

This project takes this idea public and portable. Sound stickers can be placed on surfaces for others to play back by running a small tape wand across them. This creates a new medium and public forum, accessible to those with play devices completely independent from the internet and most other external systems. The manual nature of playback also means play speed can be varied through the movement of the hand.
